RAM Charger

The minimal requirement for RAM Charger memory enhancement is RAM Charger in your Extensions, System or Control Panels folder, and the RAM Charger Preferences file in your Preferences folder (RAM Charger preferences can't be an alias at this point). If setup properly, you should see the RAM Charger icon during startup, with no "X" and no error message, and you should not get an error message when you open RAM Charger Settings.

To be able to configure RAM Charger you would also want RAM Charger Settings in your Preferences folder, though it may be moved as described below.

Finally, if RAM Charger General Settings is in your Control Panels folder (this empty "document" opens RAM Charger settings), you will also be able to open RAM Charger General Settings from your control panels folder.

Control Panels:RAM Charger General Settings

More About This Mac (MATM)

MATM should be in your Control Panels folder if you want your Apple Menu to be enhanced (since MATM contains an Extension, as described for RAM Charger, that "enhances" your Apple Menu), though it may be moved as described below. If setup properly, you should see the MATM icon during startup, with no "X" and no error message, and you should get the MATM window when you select the "About This Mac" item from the Finder's Apple Menu.

Moving Files To Alternate Locations

"Extensions" are only active if placed in any one of the magic "load extension" folders: System Folder, Extensions Folder, or Control Panels folder during startup.

"Applications" may be moved to any location and double clicked to open.

RAM Charger menus will only search the magic "load extension" folders, their disabled counterparts, and the Preferences folder for MATM and RAM Charger Settings (which may be renamed). The menus will accept an alias to the original if the name is the same as originally installed.

LOAD-In either System Folder, Extensions Folder, or Control Panels folder.
DIS-If "Disabled" in startup manager, MATM will still work from RAM Charger menues, but not from the Apple Menu "About" item.
ANY-Kept and opened anywhere; however it,or an alias, may need to be placed in a special folder to be available from RAM Charger menu or to "Enhance" your system.

Side Note: if you have a traditional installation, you may remove MATM from your Apple "About This Mac Menu" now by "disabling" it in your startup manager - it will still be available from your RAM Charger menus.

Tight Startup Disk Example

The two largest movable files are RAM Charger Settings and More About This Mac. If you do the following, the only limitation is that MATM will not be available via the Finder's Apple Menu "About" item (it will be available from RC menus).

Standard Installation, then....

Move RAM Charger Settings to some other disk.
"RAM Charger Settings" alias in your Preferences
Move MATM to some other disk.
"More About This Mac" alias in your Control Panels
Trash any "RAM Charger Prefernces Backup"
Trash "Documentation" folders on startup disk.

Preferences:RAM Charger Preferences
Preferences:RAM Charger Settings -> (alias to original)
Control Panels:RAM Charger General Settings
Control Panels:More About This Mac -> (alias to original)
Preferences:More About This Mac Preferences

Reinstall/Update

The installer expects to see files where they were originally installed. If you move files or set up aliases and then rerun the install, you may have to remove the aliases first - and fix up after.
